    Nevada Basin Outlook Report for CARSON RIVER BASIN as of January 1, Snowpack conditions in the Carson River Basin are well above median. January 1 snow water content was percent of the January 1 median. Last year, snow water content was 8 percent of median. December precipitation was percent of average.     This report, produced in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey, UNR Cooperative Extension, UNR Department of Geography, and the National Weather Service, describes the January flooding (the "New Year's Floods") along the Truckee, Carson, and Walker Rivers in Nevada, and the effects of the floods in these river basins. The New Year's flood, which caused $ million damage in Western Nevada and inundated Reno's downtown district for days, was yet another reminder of how quickly disaster can strike. Eight years later, the relatively mild New Year's flood of caused another $18 million in damage along the Truckee River.

    The Southwest Region includes California, Nevada, and Arizona. The Regional Office, headquartered in Sacramento, provides Center oversight and support, facilitates internal and external collaborations, and works to further USGS strategic science directions.
